Curriculum Intent
At Coupals Primary Academy, we use the Kapow Scheme from Year 1 to Year 6 which provides an integrated, practical and exploratory approach to music study. The scheme explores the interrelated dimensions of music across each unit to encourage the development of the full range of musical skills.
A weekly singing assembly provides every child in the school the opportunity to sing as a part of our school community. This helps to develop their singing technique but also helps them to reap the benefits that singing brings in terms of wellbeing.
In Year 3, pupils receive music tuition through Suffolk County Music Service to learn an instrument including how to read musical notation. Suffolk County Music Service tutors link their sessions to Charanga to enable pupils to extend their learning at home and provide local music celebration opportunities for pupils to perform in public. In Years 4, 5 and 6, children are offered the opportunity to continue learning their instrument through Play On. We are currently developing music extra curricular opportunities for pupils in to the 2021-22 academic year.
